Brooklyn Ave.

Well I have lived in my new apartment about five days now. It still feels a little like I’m staying in someone else’s house, but I’m sure it will sink in soon that this fabulous little space is mine to call home. Read more about my week:

Sunday: Moving Day
We did the move last Sunday and it went surprisingly smoothly. If you ever move to another city, I strongly urge you to recruit helpers in each city. Married couples seem to work well. My friends Steve and Vicki came over to the Oshawa house on Sunday morning and we moved everything I was taking out of the family home outside. Then when Tamara arrived with the truck we just had to throw everything onto it. I packed a bunch of stuff into my car and went ahead to the new house while Tamara went to pick up some of her stuff that was being stored by some friends. Phase 2 (I don’t know phases) took place when I met my other friends in the city. I was late, of course, but they were happy to relax outside the Tango Palace with some friends of theirs who conveniently live down the street from me. So M and S came over and when Tamara arrived we unloaded the truck. I had cleared absolutely everything of mine out of the house in Oshawa, so I didn’t have to return there that night. Puttered around putting stuff together and sorting boxes, then ordered a pizza for dinner. Wonder of wonders, the cable was already hooked up, even though we hadn’t arranged for it, yet. Almost a week now, and it’s still going. When it’s disconnected eventually (Rogers will clue in, won’t they?) then we will be splicing the cable with the people upstairs (Tamara’s sister and brother-in-law).

Monday: Drinking Day
I had Monday off from work, so Tamara and I went to Zeller’s (Canadian Wal-Mart) and got a bunch of stuff we needed, odds and ends like a broom, garbage for the kitchen, ironing board, etc. Then I got groceries in the afternoon. Monday night M was over and we called our friend Jim at work and he agreed to meet us on the Danforth for some drinks. Well, many drinks later the three of us stumbled back to the apartment, then they took their respective cabs home.

Tuesday
Had to go back to work. When I got home there was a funky smell, like a cat had sprayed, even though there are no cats in the place. So I got rid of all of the boxes, since I deduced that one of them must have sprayed a box that had been in the garage in Oshawa. Man, I have a lot of books.

Wednesday
Went to Oshawa after work to visit Dad and Heather. Didn’t accomplish too much on the new home front.

Thursday: IKEA Day
Tamara and I were both at IKEA yesterday, but at different times. I picked up my new bookcase since my books were stacked all over the living room after ridding the place of cardboard. M put it together for me and I put my books on it last night. It looks fantastic, really makes the place. I also hung some twinkle lights outside on the deck, and we met the couple who lives next door, Maryanne (is anybody still really named that?) and John. Tamara bought some flowers for outside and her dad brought us a tomato plant.

So things are going very well. Can’t wait to be able to hop on the streetcar and go right downtown for a coffee Sunday morning. The weather is expected to be gorgeous.
