Catchup

I took last Friday off (I only work 8:30 – 1 on Fridays) because my friends came over after work to warm my house. And warm it they did. M came over a bit early because he was off, as well. I made potato salad and caesar salad and had bought some PC burgers to barbeque (that’s grill to you Americans). I had also done the beer run before hand, so the beers were chillin’ when Jim, Cam and Carolyn arrived at my front door, sleeping bags in hand.

We immediately set up shop in the back yard. Carolyn brought the standard nacho dip that seems to accompany all of our social events, and one of those hollowed-out pumperknickels with spinach dip inside. We munched and drank and just generally relaxed and laughed. Then the rain came. Fortunately the people upstairs from me were away for the weekend, so half of the garage was vacant. We moved the table and chairs and bbq into the garage, leaving the garage door open. So it was still sort of like we were outside. Two other friends, Ingrid and Brian arrived a little while later than everyone else. Brian went to work catching up on missed drinks. Ingrid brought me a small bamboo plant with 3 stalks, meant for good luck. After we had eaten the rain stopped, so we moved the table and chairs back out onto the deck. Cam pitifully passed out early, commenting later that it’s pathetic that he can’t stay up drinking past midnight anymore without having a nap in the afternoon. Ha! Cam made a couple of cds to listen to so we put them on shuffle in the stereo and the new Eminem song kept getting thrown into the rotation, way more frequently than the other songs. As a result I am hooked on this piece of garbage tune. Us weirdos woke up at 7:30 Saturday morning so we watched one of the World Cup games and I made bacon and eggs for breakfast. Everyone left by 9:30 and I went back to bed. It was great, because when I woke up it felt like 3:00 in the afternoon but it was really barely noon. I got busy on the cleanup and dishes and stuff.

Saturday night I went over to S and M’s and we rented a film called Sidewalks of New York and also watched Serendipity eating those big freezies that leave you with gut-rot.

Sunday was the Nora Ephron film festival in my livingroom, featuring When Harry Met Sally and You’ve Got Mail. Sunday night they came to my place and we found a great Thai place that delivers. When your order comes to $30 or more they send a free pad thai. How great is that? We threw Sixteen Candles in and watched that while we ate.

Monday came all too soon, but turned out to be a lot of fun. Went to Lee’s Palace to see this band whose sax player I had met last week. Then he suggested we go to Sax on Yonge where a friend of his was having a CD release party as part of the du Maurier Downtown Jazz festival. The bar was really nice, little candles, very nice atmosphere. Great music, too. Love the live jazz.

So here I am, it’s Tuesday morning and I’m listening to this bloody Eminem song again. Sigh.
