I was actually glad to be back at work this morning, if for no other reason than that there is air conditioning here. I need to buy a fan, and quick. The weekend was hot, humid, hazy, and homo.
Friday night I found my local video store and stayed in to watch High Fidelity. Great movie. I usually don’t like when the actors in a film address the camera directly, but John Cusack pulled it off quite well.
Saturday morning I drove to Oshawa and had tea with my dad outside. The yard at our house is absolutely beautiful. Heather, my step-mom, puts a tremendous amount of work into the garden. It was really nice to just sit back there in the morning, before it got too hot. Then I drove to Cobourg to pick up my cat, Toby, to take him to the vet in Colborne. The traffic was absolutely horrendous. What is normally a 45-minute drive became an hour and a half. I was late getting to the vet, so I didn’t have a chance to visit with my Mom, whom Toby stays with. I went back to Oshawa after the vet and had dinner with my Dad and Heather before heading back to the city around 8. Just did some housework at home and relaxed, stayed cool.
Sunday I went downtown on the streetcar and met S and M at the Starbucks at Queen & John. I was staying away from the place for awhile, but I’ve accepted the fact that I am now an Official Starbucks Snob. (In fact, I’m enjoying a tall hazelnut frappucino as I type this. Mmmm.) We walked over to Yonge and College St. and found a good spot to watch the Pride Parade. It’s not a march, anymore, it’s a full-out exercise in voyeurism. I took a lot of pictures, and I’ll post them here when I get them developed and scanned. We liked the leather-wearing, buff, oiled-up gay men float the best. The firemen came a close second.
Monday was absolutely disgusting outside. I awoke to a new kind of bug in my sink. I watched Serendipity again, then went back to sleep for awhile. Got up and ate freezies and drank Kool-aid and just tried to stay cool. Killed about 12 flies. Gross. Later when I was making my lunch for work today I found a mouse in one of the traps under my sink. Blech. Mouse #1. Took care of that, and when I went to put the garbage outside I was greeted with maggots. Ugh. This explains the flies. Cursed garbage strike. Like I said, it’s not so bad coming to work today. After work I will be stocking up on Lysol and Raid.
