I talked to saxman on Thursday night and we made plans to do something on Saturday night. I had invited him to a football game in Scarborough on Friday night but he had plans with his sister and her boyfriend, so he wasn’t at first able to come. But when those plans got changed, he called on Friday to see if the game was still on. So he and M came over to my place around 5 and we barbequed some burgers. The weather was quite warm and humid that day. We drove out to the game and watched Western humiliate U. of T. up to 51-7 in the third quarter (final score 59-13) until it started to pour rain, so we dashed to the car and went back to my place, had a drink and watched Oz. Then M left and saxman stayed over. I drove him to work in the morning, in the west end of the city.
My friend Corrie, who was one of my roommates in second year, came to visit from Stratford and we went over to the Tango Palace and sat out on the back patio while we waited for S to come over. S took photographs of Corrie in her rugby uniform and in her sports bra, for the same series of portraits that she’s painting me for. Corrie and I had a really good visit, we hadn’t hung out for a long time.
After she left around 3 I had a nap for an hour or so and then got ready and went over to saxman’s, where he cooked “Risotto Surprise” for dinner. I brought a bottle of Masi and we had that with dinner and listened to Miles Davis and talked. Awhile after dinner we went over to a little bar on Roncesvalles called Gate 403 where saxman sometimes plays on Sunday nights (open mike). We had a drink there and went back to his place and watched a Woody Allen film (he’s a fan, too), and I stayed over. He made eggs the next day and we went back to my neighbourhood, where he played hockey with his sister’s boyfriend at Withrow Park while I sipped latte and read on the grass. We had dinner at my place last night and had the first fire in our fireplace, it was great. This morning I dropped him off at the subway on the way to work.
We’re going out this Thursday night and on Saturday, over to M and S’s for the Leafs’ home opener. S’s making this awesome homemade pizza for dinner.
Things are going really well with saxman. He told me that when his mother asked on the phone if he’d met any girls lately that he told her a little about me, that I’m an editor, my mother lives in Cobourg too, etc. M and I hooked up Aimee Mann tickets for November 8, and I was a little nervous asking saxman to go because it’s still a whole month away. But when I told him this he said he thinks it’ll be okay.
He said he likes the way I listen and think when we talk and that I’m thoughtful, he isn’t used to that. We’re having a really good time.
