It’s fourth quarter at my company right now. That means there’s a lot of emphasis on getting billable books and other publications completed and out to the consumer (mostly lawyers and law students, some tax professionals). Right now I’m in a lull. I’ve sent probably a dozen packages to the typesetter, but nothing has returned to me finished in four days. I keep sending stuff away, off of my desk, but nothing has come back yet. This makes me a little nervous. It’s the calm before the storm. I half expect to see the mail lady arrive at my desk with a wheel-barrow full of manila envelopes in a little while. Here’s what I’m working on:

Lots of balls in the air! It’s fun, though. This time of year is really busy, but it’s also very rewarding. It’s the point in my job where there is a great feeling of accomplishment. I’ll hold these books in my hand, and flip through the pages and remember making certain changes and the process of putting it together, only now instead of the book being just a series of electronic files, it’s something tangible and concrete that I put a lot of thought and time into. It’s pretty cool. Now if only my name were in more of them…
