A lot has been happening with me lately, but I have not felt at liberty to write about it online, since I wasn’t sure who was “watching”. Here’s the update.
1. I took a few days off last week and got on the job search hard. I applied for 32 positions in four days. The work paid off. I got hired this morning at a non-profit agency called Zoocheck, run by three or four women who bring their dogs to work. I will be a Research Assistant. The office is small, about a 10 minute drive from my house, and they’ve requested I not bring meat to work. That’s sort of funny, but it makes sense, since they are advocates for animal rights, and all. I don’t have a problem with it because I don’t eat that much meat, anyway, and it will encourage me to bring salad for lunch! It is a 10-week contract position, but they know that I will be looking for more work in the fall, so it could lead to something part-time then, too.
2. My old company has agreed to provide me with some freelance work. I will be doing my old job as a Content Editor, except I will be doing it at home, and billing them for my work on an hourly basis. I can do this work in the evenings or afternoons or on the weekend.
3. I’ve been interviewing at the Air Canada Centre for a position as a Concession Supervisor. That job would see training start in the summer, but the bulk of the hours would come in the fall, when hockey and basketball get going again. It’s pretty close to a dream job, getting to work while the Leafs are playing!
4. I’ve registered at Career Canada College for the ECG Technologist/Holter Monitor program. I’ll start at the end of the summer. It’s a seven month program and includes a month-long clinical placement. So lots to look forward to! Things are looking up.
