Pride Weekend

What a fun weekend I have had! Saturday my friend Vicki came up from Oshawa to spend her day off with me. We did brunch at Hello Toast and then went down to the Beaches and shopped around and chatted. Then we had risotto for dinner at the house. We took the streetcar downtown and then she went to Union to catch the train home and I went down to Church Street to meet up with my roommate to join in the Pride festivities going on in the village. I met up with Tamara at Woody’s (the same Woody’s as in Queer as Folk…it’s filmed there) and then we went across the street to Tango’s where some of her friends were. We did a tour of the bar and only found one person so we went outside to use a cell phone to call some people…big mistake! No sooner were we outside then the lineup extended down the block! So we spent the next hour and a half waiting to get back into the bar. It was still a fun night, though. Sunday morning I went with Tamara and her friend Judy to the outdoor service of the MCC (Metropolitan Community Church…gay church) where the main focus was to celebrate the recent court ruling that allows gays to marry legally in Canada. At one point Rev. Brent Hawkes asked all of the couples in the congregation who had been married this year to stand up and when they did everyone cheered and clapped, and they were so happy to be recognized properly for being married…it was a very emotionally powerful moment. There was a lot of music played and sung by the choir. I hadn’t been to church in ages but I wanted to support Tamara and I’m really glad I went. Sunday afternoon of course was the parade, and we hung out at Yonge and Bloor to watch. Got my nose sunburned. Caught and then wore some mardi gras beads thrown by some half-naked hottie off of a float into the crowd. All in all, it was very fun, and I can’t wait until next year!
