I finally got into the Financial Aid office to pick up my loan documents. Here’s the stupid part: They pay you 60% of your loan in September and 40% in January. They require you to pay 100% tuition in September. Doesn’t it stand to reason that you should be required to pay the same portion of your tuition as you are being paid OSAP? I nearly cried when the F.A. Officer told me. She agreed that she would only deduct half of my winter tuition from the amount I’m getting this month. Basically what the government is saying is I should be able to live on $900 for the next four months. And then the school tells us nursing students that we really shouldn’t have jobs while we go to school. It’s a catch-22. I went back to my doctor today for more immunizations. It turns out I was not immune to German Measles. If a pregnant woman contracts GM during pregnancy it can cause birth defects. Good thing I found out! I got my second TB test and MMR vaccine today. I’ll return in three weeks for the second Hep B shot. I just talked to a guy that my step-mom knows who teaches Basic Cardiac Life Support (I need Level C) from his home for $20. This is an incredible deal…St. John’s Ambulance charges $120. For my nutrition course I have to record my food intake for three days and then use a software package to analyze my intake and see if I’m complying with Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating. It is worth 30% of my final grade. Doing an exercise like this really makes you aware of what you eat! Today is a much better day than yesterday.
