Happy Thanksgiving

What a lovely, family-filled weekend it’s been.

On Saturday I was left to my own devices to get our dinner started. I’ve never had to start the turkey by myself before, but it was really no sweat! I got up, had some coffee and got the house in order (it’s always in order, but I got it into “company’s coming” shape). I peeled the potatoes, set the table, made a quick run to Price Chopper for a few last minute things, and relaxed until my mom arrived around 3. My brother Matt and his girlfriend Karlie got in about 4:45, and we ate around 6. It was really nice to have everyone there in my home. I felt really proud. Matt & Karlie stayed until around 10. Usually they have to rush off shortly after dinner, but not this time. We took some pictures out in the back laneway. Mom stayed overnight.

Sunday I drove down to Oshawa to see my Dad and that side of my family. We had a roast beef dinner, since Heather thought that we’d all be “turkeyed out.” I got to have another good visit with my Gramma Holtby. We talked a bit about her family history, as she’s been anxious to learn more about her father’s side of the family, especially his mother. I’ll have to poke around some genealogy websites and see what I can come up with.

There’s almost nothing better for the soul than sitting around a dinner table with the people you care most about in the world, getting caught up with one another and sharing a laugh. I am thankful to be part of two wonderful families.
