My Traumatic Childhood Experience

Heidi was talking about her fear of the little girl who appeared in the movie The Ring. I was just going to post this in a comment on her blog, but I thought I’d make a little post about it here on my own blog.

When I was 5 years old my Uncle Albert took me to see E.T.-The Extraterrestrial. That movie scared the hell out of me! I’ve still never seen the entire film. It used to freak me out to have Entertainment Tonight on television because they would say “ET” so often, referring to themselves. I had nightmares about it for years and E.T. still makes the odd appearance in dreams I have, although they’re not usually frightening anymore. I think I’m afraid to watch it more because I’m afraid of having nightmares again. As a kid my imagination would totally get the better of me, and I’d imagine E.T. sitting in the corner of the basement or my closet or any room that was dark that I was going into. It was awful!

I was WAY too young to have been taken to see that movie in a theatre. I’ll sure be wary of things like this when I have my own kids! It must have been rough on my parents, too.

Oh Amy, that’s hilarious, and adorable!
When I was in 5th grade, so 11 years old or so, my parents went to visit some friends, and us kids watched Arachnophobia in the basement. I had nightmares for weeks!

Spiders are my other fear. I haven’t watched that movie, either, because of that.
