Slacker

I’ve been a total blog slacker lately. And I’ve had things to write about! I’ve been very busy work-wise the last couple of weeks, so when I’m done work the last thing I feel like doing is working with words, since that’s what I do all day.

Anyhoo, today is less busy so I have some time to write a bit.

A couple of weekends ago Graham and I drove down to Michigan to visit his friend Kamo and his new wife Chandra and her son Gabriel. They have a really nice house in Pontiac. There were no fences permitted in the subdivision, so you could see into everyone else’s yards. I would hate that lack of privacy, personally. Fortunately their house backed onto some brush so they didn’t have to look back at any neighbours, just to the sides. The weather was super-humid. I took my camera outside from the air conditioned house and when I took a picture, it looked like this. We had dinner out the first night at a Chinese restaurant, the name of which I forget at the moment, but the food was good. I had an $8 cocktail with my dinner which was also excellent. The next day we did some shopping at a place that sold clothes for nothing more than $7.98. I got a pair of jeans, a pair of shorts and a skirt, all for under $20 U.S. Even with the exchange it was a great deal. Graham bought a bunch of stuff there, too, mostly work jeans, but he got a few nice golf shirts. The second night we had steak for dinner and a campfire in the back yard. Gabe was really excited about the camp fire. He was a really thoughtful and energetic little boy. On the way home from Michigan we stopped off in London to avoid Toronto rush hour traffic. Graham and I had both have lived there before, so we showed each other the homes we had lived in. At one place I lived, if I hadn’t paid my cable bill, Graham would have been the guy to show up at my door with a notice. Isn’t that a cool coincidence? He’s also pretty sure he did shut off Matt & Saul’s cable a few times. If he’s right, they just kept getting it connected in someone else’s name (there were 4 or 5 guys living in that place). We had dinner at my favourite restaurant, Fellini Koolini’s, then came home. It was a really nice long weekend, and it was great to get away from the house for a few days. We tend not to relax much on the weekend around here. There’s always lots to accomplish. We enjoy doing stuff for the house, but somehow Monday morning arrives and there hasn’t really been much of a break!

This past weekend I had a baby shower for my friend Vicki. There were ten of us in total and it was a great success. She got lots of good stuff for the baby, including a lot of good advice. Kolleen made her a diaper wreath. We all took turns giving Vicki advice that we’d written down on these cute little cards, and I felt like it was really good to have a room full of women sharing their experiences as mothers and daughters and friends. I was touched to be able to be part of that for Vicki. She’s due on July 2, but Heather says she looks too comfortable to be ready for labour yet! Vicki’s plan is to walk around a lot to get things moving over the next week. I’m going to pick her up one evening next week and go out walking at Rotary Park with her. There are lovely gardens in there.

Farley‘s getting more comfortable around the whole house pretty much, now, except for the basement, which has a lot of nooks and crannies for him to get into. He has absolutely no fear when it comes to Mazda. He’s slowly learning not to jump on her face anymore. He seems to be learning what “NO” means. He’s a fun little guy, though. He’s been picking things up in his mouth and running around with them lately. He loves to play with scrunched up pieces of paper and has really liked playing in Graham’s work bag. He finds papers and Graham’s work ID in there to play with.

On Sunday we went for Father’s Day breakfast to Dad & Heather’s. After that Graham picked up the boat from storage. We’re going to get it cleaned up this weekend, and then for Canada Day we’re going to take it over to Oshawa to watch the fireworks at Lakeview Park. Depending on the weather, we may stay overnight on it. The rest of the long weekend will probably be spent gardening, which is just fine with me!

That should do it for now!
