Graham and I had planned to take the boat out on Friday over to Lakeview Park in Oshawa to watch the annual Canada Day fireworks display. We were going to bbq supper on the boat, too. Unfortunately it got really windy overnight and when we got up Friday decided it was much too windy to enjoy ourselves out on the water. The temperature dropped quite noticeably Friday evening, too, enough to wear my fleece sweater out back in the evening, so I think it would have been pretty miserable on Lake Ontario. We made the right choice!
Instead we went over to Kamstra to order some mulch for delivery and then did some things around the house…Graham puttered around in the garage and I worked on stripping the paint from an old mirror. (The mirror used to be on the farm my dad grew up on…it has a carved flower in each corner and has been covered in paint for maybe 50 years, I’m guessing. Dad said that it has been painted for as long as he can remember. The wood is a beautiful caramel colour underneath all that paint. It still has the original, heavy, bevelled glass inside the wooden frame.)
Yesterday we had our mulch delivered, and Graham moved it into the back yard. We also went over to the field behind Graham’s mum’s to pick up some more rocks for the garden. We watched parts of the Live 8 concerts off and on all day and we made an amazing Greek dinner for ourselves. Graham had been marinating the pork for two days. I made some rice and Greek salad, using herbs from the garden for the salad dressing. Next time I’m going to try to make my own tzatziki, though.
Graham brought Farley outside for a few minutes this morning. He had never stepped on grass before! He looked absolutely fascinated, ears pivoting, nose sniffing. He saw birds whizzing by over his head and smelled the wildflowers. It was a special moment, and I couldn’t help thinking about Phoebe and how much she loved to lay in the sun.
Today we’re going to head out on the boat for a couple of hours. My summer tan is coming along…

Sounds like a wonderful weekend!–>
