Engaged

Last Sunday evening Graham and I went to Ridgeview Cottages on Rice Lake in Roseneath, as suggested by my friend Jude, for a few nights away from Bowmanville. We stayed in the “Just for 2” cabin and on Sunday night my other friend Jan and her partner Gord were there, too. We had a nice time, Jan & I, sitting on the dock that evening. While Graham went fishing Jan read my tarot cards. Graham is totally not into astrology or anything remotely related, but it’s just sort of for fun and I like how it makes me think about my life and what’s been going on in my head.

On Monday night (Labour Day) after most of the guests had left, even Dan and Anu, the owners, had gone out for a boat ride, leaving us with the place to ourselves. The sun was setting as we sat on the dock and the fish were jumping. Graham told me he loved me very much, that I made him very happy. He said thinking about me made him smile, and that I am a wonderful person. I blushed and I told him I felt the same about him. After a few moments of silence I asked, “Do you want to go fishing?” He sort of laughed and said, “Yes, we can go fishing, but first I have to ask you something.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box and said, “Will you marry me?” After much kissing and hugging and wiping away of tears I said “Of course I’ll marry you.” He slipped this beautiful ring on my finger and were engaged!

Dan and Anu were so pleased that it happened at their place that they threw in a third night for free. We’ve also arranged to dock the boat there next summer and will have it there until the middle of November this year. It’s a perfect place, such kind people, and only an hour away.

We took quite a few pictures over the few days. You can take a look at them here.

On Wednesday evening, after we had returned home, we did the rounds, telling first my Mom, then Dad & Heather, my brother Matt (who announced it on the radio station he works at) and Graham’s Mum. It was a lot of fun to tell people because their enthusiasm was so wonderful (and a little surprising to me). It’s fun to spread good news!
