Riding Bikes

Want to recapture your childhood? Get a bike!

Graham brought me home a bike he bought for $50 on his route last week. It’s the best gift I’ve received since…well, since my engagement ring really, but in a long time!

This evening after dinner I felt sort of in a funk, so I decided to go for a bike ride. I didn’t go very far, but it did my head a WORLD of good! At one point I looked down past my feet at the road whizzing by below, and man it took me back! I was eight years old again, riding through our subdivision, making sure it wasn’t getting too dark before I rode home.

My new bike is pearly white with hot pink accents and I love it. I love it because Graham thought of me when he saw it and because he surprised me with it when he got home. And because it gives me the ability to maintain a little piece of my independence at a time when I’m blending my life with another person in a very permanent way. Don’t get me wrong…I look forward to going on bike rides with Graham especially, but there’s just something about knowing I can hop on my bike, go for a ride, clear my head and feel like a kid again anytime I need to!
