Happy Turkey Day

Well, technically Canadian Thanksgiving is tomorrow, but today is our official Turkey Day™. (Sidebar: I’m very glad our Thanksgiving, which is really a celebration of the harvest, is this far ahead of Christmas. I can’t imagine doing this twice within a month. American Thanksgiving is on the 24th of November this year!)

Have you ever been so organized and cleaned up and ready for a family dinner that you’re sure you’ve forgotten something? Well, that’s how I sort of feel right now.

The turkey’s in the oven
Cranberries are sauced
Sweet potatoes are cubed in water in a pot on the stove, ready to be turned on
Table is set
Side table is in place
Porch is pretty
Dishes are washed

I even made corn bread last night and banana bread this morning. Who knew I could be so friggin’ domestic?

The rest of the family’s coming over around 4. Should be fun!

Hmmm….I guess I can take it easy for a few hours before my mom arrives to do the potatoes. There are a few things outside I’d like to do in the garden. It’s a beautiful fall day.

Yesterday Graham and I went for a drive and we got pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks and a straw bale at a farmer’s market. We stopped at the side of the road for cattails. I decorated the porch with it all.
