I’m feeling a little ashamed of myself…
The kids have started coming around for tricks or treats and I’m wishing I could close up the house all dark and hide. Or go to the movies or something. It’s probably just because I’m “shelling out” by myself. Graham doesn’t get home until 8 or so. And my regular readers here will know that I’m not terribly fond of our neighbours. Still, where’s my Hallowe’en spirit? We carved the pumpkins, I’ve lit them up on the porch and set the candy by the door, but there are so many other things I’d rather be doing! I think when you’ve become an adult but don’t yet have kids of your own, Hallowe’en really becomes just a pain in the butt.
Okay, for example, I’ve just been to the door and the kids keep holding out their bags, pails or pillowcases (!) after I’ve given them two candies each in case I’m going to keep on giving. I’ll give them credit where it’s due…they’re all saying thank you. But times are tight! Free candy! Man, I’m old.
I totally feel your pain. Especially since you didn’t have Graham to help you give out the candy. Last night, we had kids coming to the door wearing regular clothes – they didn’t even dress up! Steve and I tried to make our own halloween. We carved the pumpkins together, toasted the pumpkin seeds, and watched a scary movie (The Ring Two).
But…isn’t that the scariest movie you’ve ever seen that gave you nightmares?!
