Everyday Food

Before I head out into the garden today, I just wanted to share the recipes I’ve tried over the last few weeks. I’m actually pretty proud, because usually a lot of what I grow either goes to waste or is just given away. I don’t mind giving away veggies…in fact, it’s really fun, and one of my favourite garden-related rituals. But it’s even more satisfying to pick a few peppers and throw them into a stir-fry right away, like I did last night.

My recent, most reliable recipe source is Everyday Food. It’s the size of a TV Guide but much better for you.

So far I’ve tried:

  • Zucchini Fritters–Very tasty, I substituted chives for shallots (aren’t shallots really just green onions?). Good enough to eat without a dip.
  • Curried Zucchini Soup–Very yummy. Doesn’t need anymore salt than exactly what the recipe calls for (and it seemed like a lot but it was just right). Tasted great at a variety of temperatures.
  • Stuffed Zucchini–I would have mashed up the feta a bit more next time, maybe it was a bit dry because it was light feta. Not bad, but not sure I’d bother with these again.
  • Quick Pickled Cucumbers–These were yummy. I used English cucumbers out of the garden.
  • Chicken Basil Stir-fry–Sadly I can’t find the link but we had this last night. I substituted red wine vinegar for rice vinegar. Used green peppers and basil from the garden. Served it with Jasmine rice.

My subscription ran out but I’ve renewed it. Everything I’ve made out of these magazines has been worthwhile.
