This week should prove to be the most challenging of all so far, with me being out of the house for one night, heading out to see Bob Seger in Toronto Tuesday, a UWO alumni meeting Wednesday, and a birthday dinner out on Friday. Actually, that last item simplifies things slightly because it means one less day to plan for.
On the menu for this week:
Monday:
Super-Simple Beef Stew (Biggest Book of Slow Cooker Recipes). Monday is a school-night for me, which is why I usually use the crock-pot on Mondays. Even if I’m not home when Graham comes home for dinner, the house might be dark, but the pots won’t be cold. (I’ve had Santana’s “You’ve Got to Change Your Evil Ways” in my head for several days now.)
Tuesday:
Spicy Black Bean Soup (Kitchen Life). I bought myself a new book called Kitchen Life written by Art Smith, who, according to the book jacket, is Oprah Winfrey’s personal chef. This might explain why I dreamt last night that I met her while sitting in a sandwich shop. Anyway, the book was only $7.99 in the bargain books section at Chapters (although how it could ever have been $26.95 is beyond me) and isn’t just a cook book. It has chapters about shopping strategies and kitchen organization and cooking skills. Review to follow.
Wednesday:
French Dips with Mushrooms (Biggest Book of Slow Cooker Recipes). It’s a sandwich. With beef. On bread. It’ll be a hit.
Thursday:
Roast Pork Loin with Mushrooms and Tomatoes. Graham bought a small pork loin roast for half price, so I know he’ll like this. He’s very proud of his “sale meat” purchases. I used to be skeptical of meat that wasn’t right off the cow/chicken/pig-fresh, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the stuff he’s found on sale. It’s usually on sale because there is a long weekend coming and the grocery store is going to be closed.
Today I’ll start up another batch of No-Knead Bread, which will go well with any of these dinners.
