Phase I Exam Today!

Graham’s just started the car and we’re on our way to Peterborough to the Trent University campus so I can write the Phase I real estate exam. I’m not too worried…it’s an open book exam and I did some review last night. I need to get 75% to pass.

I’m mostly just looking forward to going to Peterborough for a change, and especially to seeing the Trent campus. We’ll maybe go for a drive after the exam or get some brunch somewhere new.

UPDATE: The exam went really well, I thought.  There was one stupid seemingly-easy mortgage calculation question I struggled with, but shouldn’t have.  Of course when I figured it out, I could see how easy it was.

It took me two hours to complete.  I sat near a girl who called across the room to someone how sick she was, and how she had just gotten out of bed.  Then in the first three minutes of the exam, she started using her calculator, which was one of those huge calculators with super-thick buttons that went, “CLICK, CLICK, CLICK” loudly every time she needed to calculate something.  I raised my hand and asked quietly to move across the room.  Once I’d moved I found it much easier to concentrate, especially since she ended up hacking occasionally later during the test.

There was only one question I’m bothered about…it asked about calculating property tax, but the question included the lot size for the property.  I’ve never found anything that indicates that lot size has anything to do with calculating property tax when the property is assessed by the municipality at a certain value.  So I just calculated the property tax without factoring in the lot size.  The kicker is that the question is for 3 marks.  I hope that the extra marks are for knowing that the lot size is irrelevant! My grade will be available in 1-3 weeks, and then I can enroll in Phase II.

We drove a little bit around Trent but didn’t have a lot of extra time.  We went for breakfast at a place called “Two Fifty Cafe” for breakfast that cost $4.95 each.  It was good, though.  Peterborough is cool…I could definitely live there.
