Commercial Gimmick or Special Occasion?

Isn’t it okay to like Valentine’s Day? To want to buy a card and a little something for your sweetie and tell ‘em how much you love ‘em? To let them know how gosh darn thankful you are to have ‘em in your life? Just because everyone else is doing it, too, doesn’t make it any less special or important!

The first year Graham and I lived together he brought me a big philodendron and a card and I bought him a pack of drill bits he wanted, and a card. Then we had a nice dinner in. That’s all I’m lookin’ for, really!

I know it’s a big commercial joke and just a way for big companies to suck people out of their money, but if you keep that out of the equation, I think Valentine’s Day really is a nice little occasion. I don’t need one day a year to show Graham I love him, and I don’t need him to show me his love any more that day than any other day of the year, either. It’s just nice to feel part of that day, I guess. Am I crazy, here?

I like it too! Even when you ‘re single people feel sorry for you and they feel compelled to get sucked into the commercial game and buy you “I’m sorry no one wants to date you right now” gifts. Either way, single or not, I always got gifts and that’s enough for me to approve of a holiday!
