Hey Ame, last night coming home from Cobourg, I heard “Boogie Shoes” by K.C. & the Sunshine Band and I was overwhelmed with thoughts of you as an almost two year old. That particular memory of you is crystal clear because you and I were “gittin’ down” together, just the two of us and that was my music of choice at the time, me and my bell bottom pants. Gawd, how freaking ugly. We danced up a storm, you mostly turning in circles and doing that thing you did with your hands, one over and over the other really fast, and I got tired and had to sit down and you kept saying, “want more Boogie Shoes?” whenever it was over, with those great big brown eyes bugging out right up close to my face. Of course I played it about a thousand times.
Mom’s moving in with us at the end of June. Basement renovations and much organization will take place between now and then. Graham is of course excited to have a purpose for so many of the tools he houses in the garage. Although we’ve had our challenges adjusting to our evolving relationships over the past year, I’m looking forward to this change. I do believe that we will have a successful year all under the same roof, because we’ve been very open and candid about our expectations regarding privacy (both ours and Mom’s), and because it is a mutually beneficial arrangement. For a family who are so accustomed to tip-toeing around one another, this kind of openness is remarkable, and a sign we’re getting to know one another all over again.
