Angie was setting up with her partner Maura for their gig last night. I was just starting to accept the fact that no one else was going to make it out to our planned meet-up. In fact, I had asked the bartender if there was a pay phone so I could call Graham to come have a drink with me (they didn’t have one…too many cell phones in the world). I sat back down and wondered how I was even going to call him to come pick me up later, when I heard Lisa and Carrie say, “Hi, Amy!” RELIEF. Lisa, Carrie, Veronica and Stacey all showed up at Angie’s gig and we had a great time, laughing at how stupid we were when we were 12 and 13 years old, and dishing about everyone else who wasn’t there.
When I arrived Angie was out front having a cigarette and one of the first things she said was, “You haven’t changed…I mean, you’ve changed, but you haven’t, you know what I mean?” She was completely right. We’ve all evolved, become adults, some of us married, some of us with kids, but fundamentally the six women sitting around that table last night were just the same as 16 years ago.
