Today Mom moved the rest of her crap stuff into our house. Whatever didn’t fit either went onto the curb (her old curb, not our curb) or into her storage unit. The kickass part is that neither Graham nor I had to participate in moving large pieces of furniture. Matt is probably grouchy over that fact, but hey, we’re only building a kitchen and bathroom in our house, so there. Besides, I moved lots of boxes and smaller things in my car in the weeks leading up to today.
This evening after I pried Grace from my leg, I helped Mom put together her daybed downstairs with her cordless drill. I love being a tool girl. I even found the right kind of bit in the garage so we wouldn’t have to use those stupid allen keys. Mom was all happy when we got some things arranged because she started to see that one side of the room would be her living room, complete with a cat under each piece of furniture and the other would be a bedroom “area”. Once the kitchen is done and she can use the rest of the basement it won’t seem as crowded. I really want her to like living here, to be happy and feel like she has a nice home, because after much moving around and many crazy landlords, she deserves some peace in her life. She is a good person. I did feel a wee bit guilty being down there with her while Graham was home, but hopefully I won’t spend a lot of time feeling like I’m in between my mom and my husband.
Also spent a bit of time out in the garden tonight, mostly trying just to figure out where I’m going to plant my peppers & eggplants. You wouldn’t think this would be that huge a deal, but you see, I have three of some varieties, four of others, and SIX of another. How can this be? How will I arrange them in rows when there are such varying numbers of types of plant? (See? A tiny bit of OCD.) There will be no plunking them in willy nilly. I know, I can plant some over at the community plot and call it an experiment to see which growing conditions are better. Yeah, that works.
Wow, I sure am writing a lot of blog posts these days. It’s because of the Blogher inspiration, I think.
