Saturday night was the Engagement Party of the Century, held for my brother Matt & Karlie. It was the most organized party I’ve ever attended, complete with directions to the washroom posted on the screen door. There was a lot of poker playing later on, and I hear they played until five o’clock in the morning. We only stayed until eleven thirty. Lightweights.
Highlights of the party:
Mom’s insistence on trying a “Jaggerbomber”, a potent combination of Jaggermeister and Red Bull (I think I just threw up a little), served in perfectly co-ordinated shot glasses, purchased especially for the occasion.
Listening to Heather tell me the story of cutting off her own ponytail as a kid. Feeling relieved when she told me she threw away that ponytail…about a month ago.
Resisting the urge to yell, “LICK ME, all of you!” Parker Posey style, after pumping the keg in the corner.
Hanging out with my step-brother Zach, who I see about once a year (it’ll be twice this year) because he lives in Calgary where the value of his house has about doubled since he bought it a few years ago.
Getting to just be there to celebrate with Matt, knowing very well all of the inevitable wedding crap they’re going to go through over the next two years of their engagement, and feeling very relieved that I never have to go through the wedding planning experience again (but I’m here for you Matt! Come talk anytime you want! I’m not bitter!).
Some photos from the party:
The cake my mom ordered, using a photo I took at Thanksgiving back in 2004.

Matt’s huge finger made me laugh and simultaneously spit on my computer because it’s so funny.
Looks like a good time had by all. But what’s with the “big yellow kids”??? Did I miss something??
Matt’s best man has said that Matt & Karlie will have “big yellow kids”. Just ’cause they’re tall & blonde.
I just saw the picture with Matt and his big finger. I don’t recall laughing like that for a very long time. Good one, Ame.
