BlogHer Itinerary

Look, if you are bored by all of this Chicago and BlogHer talk, you might want to just turn around and leave.

Wait! I was just kidding. I promise over the coming days to write posts that aren’t just about the conference, even if it is the thing I am most looking forward to for the remainder of the summer.

Without further ado, I give you the BlogHer 2007 Assertagirl Itinerary. (Imagine I said that in a loud, echo-y voice.)

Wednesday, July 25:

Leave the house at the ungodly hour of 6:00 am in order to miss the majority of GTA rush hour traffic through Durham Region and down the Don Valley Parkway. Aim to be at Gayla‘s by about 7:00 am.

If there wasn’t enough time at home, find some sort of espresso-based coffee beverage so that I can, you know, be AWAKE when we cross the border.

I haven’t planned our route 100% yet, so I’m not sure if we’ll be crossing the border at Niagara Falls, or in Sarnia. Not sure, then, where we’ll be stopping along the way. Will have this figured out a bit better by Wednesday. Flint interests us, as does Detroit. In daylight.

Aim to arrive in Chicago by 6 or 7 pm. It’s a nine-hour drive. Flash honk at HerBadMother and the Eco-Trippin’ crew on the highway.

Thursday, July 27:

Do a bit of touring around Chicago. Again, we are uncertain what exactly we will be seeing, maybe some sort of botanical garden. Coffee will again be an important feature of the day. Connect with Renee at some point in the day (for lunch, maybe?).

Gayla and Renee have Important Panelist Meetings to attend around 5, so I’ll be joining some other ladies for dinner at a restaurant called P.J. Clarke’s. Oh look, here’s their menu. Meeting up in the lobby of the W Hotel to walk over as a herd of women with really cool shoes.

After dinner the meet-up moves to the top of the W Hotel. Must try not to get too drunk so Gayla isn’t disgusted by me and also so I am not too hung over the morning the conference actually begins, although judging from some of the Flickr streams I’ve seen, this is something of a grand tradition.

Friday, July 27:

Day One of the actual conference! Breakfast is at 8:30. I will be following the Art of Life track, for the most part, including Gayla and Renee’s panel, “Blogging is More Than Words”.

There is a reception and cocktail party from 6-8 that night. Uncertain about what happens after 8, but I do have a sneaking suspicion it will involve alcohol. Just a guess, though. I am not a lush. (Remember calling your girlfriends a lush? So mid-nineties.)

Saturday, July 28:

Day Two of the conference.

Another cocktail party from 6-9 on Navy Pier, hosted this time by the people at Dove who sent me the “Sleeveless Ready” kit I posted about awhile back.

Plans after 9 are up in the air. Will go with the flow.

Sunday, July 29:

Day to drive home. Not super-early, because I don’t care if it’s midnight when I’m pulling back into our driveway here in Bowmanville.

I have a few things to do before leaving. My list:

  • Transfer my photos from the laptop to an external drive. I’ve been meaning to do this for a long time to clear up some space.
  • I’m getting my hair cut and coloured on Tuesday morning because it’s looking all scraggly and my current colour is growing out and OH MY GOD I HAVE THREE GREYS IN FRONT.
  • Pack. I will try to travel light, but it’s not like my luggage will be weighed or anything. The Jettawagon holds a lot of crap and there will only be two of us in the car. Must not forget to bring: camera, camera battery charger, firewire for camera, Chicago travel guide, birth control pills (for some reason I forget these when I travel), Advil.

I’m going to miss Graham…this sounds silly, I know, but we haven’t spent this much time apart since we met. I think it’ll be good for us, though. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, and all of that crap.

What errands, etc. do you have to do before leaving?

Ha! I got my hair cut 2 days ago after I realized I can’t be in front of people with the not-quite mullet my short hair had grown into.

I also hit up the thrift shop for some comfy travel clothes since marriage has made my belly grow bigger (though nothing is growing inside, thank goodness!). stress eating anyone?!

  2. hair is cut. toes are pedi’d.
    - got some cash today as I will be doing full day care right up to jumping on a plane.
-I am going to mostly pack this weekend too….just because I am THAT excited!

-instructions have been typed for those SUCKERS staying at home to look after the children!
    hahahahahhaha

I got my hair cut last week. It was getting out of control. Something is a little off about this cut though and it is driving me nuts.

Basically I have to do everything before Tuesday night. Whatever “everything” is. Which cameras will I bring? What will I wear? Nobody knows.

Most important thing: finish making road music mixes.

Hi! Will look forward to meeting you at BlogHer.

We’re going to spend the night at Kalamazoo (just because, Kalamazoo!) then get in to town early Thurs. I want to go the art institute and maybe the aquarmium. Sunday the other ladies are doing the unconference. I figure I’ll be sick of bloggy talk by then (and probably hungover) so I’m going to do an architecture boat tour. We’ll arrive home late, late Sunday night. As for errands, I still have to get my hair done and buy new shoes. Shite!
