Perfect Post Awards, September

I have been meaning to participate in the Perfect Post Awards ever since July, but September is the first month I actually remembered to set aside a blog post that really touched me.

Since this is the first time some of my readers will have come across the Perfect Post Awards, here are the rules, as instructed by the ringleaders of this friendly endeavour, Kimberly of Petroville and Lindsay of Suburban Turmoil.

Choose your favourite post from the month of September. By “favourite”, I mean a post that made you cry, touched your heart, had you laughing out loud or made you believe in magic again. Whatever the word perfect means to you. Care to check out past award posts? They all are now housed in their very own library.

On the first of the month, write a post on your own blog about why you chose the post you chose. Don’t forget to link to Petroville and Suburban Turmoil so that people can see the other Perfect Post awardees if they’d like. Important: In order to participate, you must write a post about why you chose your winner and do the linking on award day.

On that same day, send your awardee the Perfect Post button code so that they can put it on their site if they wish.

The Original Perfect Post Awards – Sept ‘07

Isn’t that little button pretty? It’s all autumny and such.

This month I would like to bestow this pretty button upon Sandra of Blog Chocolate. Her post, “My Mom…” brought tears to my eyes. It affected me because things have been a little rocky with my own mom these days, and although we love each other very much, and nothing could ever cause us to lose our relationship permanently, it’s been on the rocks for a few days. I loved how Sandra was able to articulate all of the things that she loves and admires about her mother, things that she might not necessarily have liked about her, but also things that make her love her fiercely, for who she is.

I took a lesson from Sandra this month, and sat and thought for a few moments about the things I love about my own mom. For instance:

She’s left a disability pension behind to return to full-time employment, fifteen years later.
She is the most organized woman I have ever met, and I know I’ve inherited that tendency from her.
She is very protective of my brother and I.
She would love desperately to have a grandchild, but is doing her best to understand our current decision not to have children.
She loves “I Love Lucy” and “The Dick Van Dyke Show”.
She loves to gather her favourite people around her during the holidays.
She cries whenever she feels any emotion intensely enough, including fear, anger, love, happiness or depression.

So thanks, Sandra, for reminding me of what is truly important.

Thank you a million times over. I don’t have the words.

    You made my day!

I went over to Blog Chocolate and you’re right. A beautiful post. I loved what you had to say about your mom as well. Mothers and daughters are tough sometimes.
