Wow, thank you so much for all of your thoughtful comments on yesterday’s post. I have yet to receive a really nasty comment on this website, one that merits deleting, and I thought I might, finally, really have put myself at risk with that topic. This really can be a nice place to hang out and chat sometimes, eh? Yay you.
This morning’s post is much more frivolous, I’m sure you’ll be glad to know. It’s about COFFEE. (Channeling Mocha Momma…) It’s about that wonderful, warm morning ritual that ensures the day starts out right.
Coffee has been an important part of my life since I bought my first coffee maker when I lived in Toronto, about five years ago. I bought a basic Black & Decker coffee maker from Canadian Tire for about $19.99 and stopped off at Starbuck’s for a bag of their breakfast blend (obviously I had a lot more disposable income in those days). As the fresh aroma of fresh coffee filled my home for the first time, I knew I’d made a life-long friend.
Over the last five years I’ve developed a taste for pretty much any coffee drink with the exception of espresso, straight-up. I can handle cappucino, latte, all of that. But on a daily basis, I prefer a plain ‘ol coffee, brewed fresh in my kitchen, liberally laced with Hazelnut-flavoured Coffeemate. Here’s a little secret: I’ve been known to bring my own little container of Hazelnut Coffeemate out to have coffee with a friend, ordered my coffee black and fixed it up right there at the table.
The gang’s all here!
That’s President’s Choice’s Great Canadian Coffee right there. That big can sells for $8.99 regularly, but this week it was on for $6.99. I think they’re trying to mimic Tim Horton’s, but I don’t like Tim Horton’s coffee much, and I like this.
There’s my baby, Hazelnut Coffeemate standing proudly by. Why yes, it is sold in that convenient economy size.
Hey you, International Delight! I only bought you as a last resort. You were the next best available product at the store and I thought I’d give you another chance. However, you disappointed me again. You’ll stay there in the fridge for company because you are just not creamy or hazelnutty enough for my morning ritual.
This is going to be good.
Ahhh, finally I can wake up.

Though I refuse to be a daily coffee drinker, I am a weekend coffee drinker. This of course is due to my ‘someone better get me this I registered for it’ Delonghi coffee machine with regular coffee and espresso. Sat mornings are some kind of flavoured coffee from Second Cup and Sundays are lattes. It also gets pulled out for company since no home can be without a coffee machine. I also love a Starbucks/Second Cup/Timothys latte for mochacino and love trying out funky indy shops.
It will be interesting to see whether this post gets more passionate responses than your previous one!
Coffee-hating spam removed.
You are so cute.
GAH! You’re adorable! That early in the morning? You channeled me all right. I refrained from licking the screen, but I think I’ll make a pot right now and it’s 9:20 p.m.
Should be fine.
