It’s officially time for us to go back to work. How do I know this? Because every cell in my body tells me that watching a show like “Hogan Knows Best” is making me slightly dumber. I really wish I could turn off the television but that would mean putting down my Strongbow, moving the laptop to the coffee table, finding the remote control, and changing the channel.
Neither Graham nor I want to go back to work. Our holidays have been great, if your definition of great includes watching more television in a week than during your entire marriage combined, eating seventeen bags of potato chips, a bucket of dip and playing many, many hands of Rummy. Life’s been good to us. But now we have to return to the Land of the Responsible Wage Earners, and oh fuck I just realized I didn’t deposit Graham’s pay cheque today. We don’t really need to pay property tax, do we?
New Year’s Eve was fun, but like most evenings involving drinking with friends, I awoke the next day feeling extremely self-conscious, sure I had been way too outspoken, said way too many things I shouldn’t have, which probably just means I had fun. Imagine!
So tomorrow I must return to the world of editing, of cleaning the house, banking, checking the mail (it’s been over a week)…of a Christmas tree-less existence. Bummer, dudes.
Up and coming: Social Psychology! At Trent University! At the Oshawa Campus, which makes it slightly less glamorous! The publishing company has a tuition reimbursement program and have decided that this course is relevant enough to my job somehow that they will reimburse me the full cost of the textbook and course when I finish it. Cool, huh?
Also: Second job! I’ll be attending a job fair on Thursday, but it’s pretty much a sure thing since I know the owner of the restaurant. I’m kind of looking forward to rejoining the hospitality industry, although the last time I did so, it left a nasty, rancid horrid aftertaste in my mouth. I’m determined to stay out of management this time, to simply clock in and out, bring home an extra side of bacon to fund fun things like trips to San Francisco, and help pay off whatever remaining debt we have after the consolidation.
So…yeah. Back to real life tomorrow. Sniff.
(P.S. Please go check out my latest post at BlogHers ACT Canada, in which I again wax poetic about Moroccan Chick Pea Soup, my favourite meatless meal. See, January’s challenge is to eat meatless one night a week. Join us!)

You and Kristin (Better Now) have me seriously thinking about the meatless thing.
Meat does not do much for me anyways…
Hope the trek into real life goes smoothly
