Wow, I was so pleased and humbled by all of your comments on my last post about daughter guilt. Thank you for taking the time to be so thoughtful. I was a little nervous to post on such a touchy subject, but now I am glad that I did.
Things are going okay here at the Assertahousehold. As I type this post, Graham is outside puttering in the garage, making room for the mammoth pile of recycling we have to put out, since we missed the Christmas Eve pick-up. Last week there was no recycling pick-up so we’re still dealing with the post-Christmas cardboard pile that is threatening to take over the basement. We recycle more trash than we put into the garbage bin, and I really wish the municipality would pick up recycling every week and garbage every other week. Makes sense, doesn’t it?
It’s been really hard getting back into the swing of regular work hours. This upcoming week is the first full, normal week after the holidays, so I’m going to try super-hard to stick to regular work hours, at least until everything on my plate for the day has been completed. Jessica over at Kerflop wrote a great post the other day about working at home, and learning to balance your life in that work situation, and I totally agree that it might be necessary for me to make some changes to my routine. I think I should change my e-mail settings so that I have to manually check for new messages instead of leaving Outlook on to check it automatically. I am always lured in by that sweet e-mail notification alert sound. Maybe all I need to do is turn that notification sound off? You gotta do what keeps you sane, right?
In case you missed Kristy’s comment on my post about spooning at the BlogHer convention, the reservation glitch has been fixed. So while spooning may not be necessary, I’m pleased to report that it looks like I’ll be passing out snuggling up with mimionthebeach. We met at the conference last year and have almost had a get-together here at home. Heather B is setting up camp with us, too. I think this means trouble.
On Friday we took Rudy to the vet and walked out $317 poorer. Poor guy had worms, ear mites and fleas. I’m feeling very glad that we rescued him from the place he was living. He is such a happy, affectionate little guy, and I’m pleased to report that he and Far have become buddies. I do have to say, though, enough with the bum-licking, guys. I’ve really had enough.
And now, without further ado, here is this week’s menu plan (nothing quite like going from bum-licking to dinner, is there?).
Monday: Indian Beef dish, courtesy of the President’s Choice. Again. We haven’t had this with beef before, though.
Tuesday: Spicy Black Bean Soup. This is an ongoing favourite of mine, a great way to eat extra fiber, and our meatless meal this week.
Wednesday: Mild Turkey Chili. Graham got me a spiffy new crock pot for Christmas, and this will be its inaugural meal. It has a timer! Say it with me, now, “Oooooh, aaaaaah.” Wednesday nights are going to be school nights for me from now until April, so most Wednesday nights will be crock pot meals.
Thursday: Pineapple Chicken and Rice. I’ll pick up some frozen spring rolls or egg rolls to go along with this meal.
Friday: Chicken Jambalaya. Another crock pot meal. Usually a winner.
(P.S. I can’t believe I watched and actually liked Miss America: Reality Check. These girls make me feel like I’m another species entirely. Anybody else watching this? Karensugarpants, I’m looking at you…)

I like seeing your menu every week because I am always looking for new dishes to try. Do you ever give your recipes? I would particularly be interested in the pineapple Chicken and Rice and CHicken Jambalaya. I am starting some Weight Watchers recipes this week. Fun!
Oh, I’m jealous I’m not going to Blogher. For some dumb reason I just don’t feel like I can justify spending the money unless and until my blog starts making a little cash.
SO ENVIOUS that you get to bunk with Heather B! If I could have made my butt over to BlogHer ’07, we were going to be roomies.
At least I’ll get to meet you both this July

Oooh…you and Mimi. I’d love to be a fly on the wall. You’re in for a good time.
I never ever ever plan meals in advance, but we’re starting this week because we’re making some changes to our and our daughter’s routines…it’ll be an interesting experiment.

I actually lost interest in the show because dude was not as funny as I thought he would be. I’ll give it another shot though!
Oooh – I LOVE my crockpot – I got it for Christmas last year and I use it all the time!
