The talk.
On Friday afternoon Graham and I went for lunch at a local pub here in our town. We talked a little bit about blogs and the BlogHer conference, and how some people write a lot about their families and their kids. (I also admitted to him the cost of dinner at French Laundry, and all he had to say about that was, “It’s your money, how you spend it is up to you.”)
I asked him what he thought about blogging about our hypothetical, possibly future children. His response was that he really didn’t think it would be a big deal…so that’s good to know. It occurred to me that although I have been blogging since before I met Graham, I had never really asked him what his feelings are about it.
“So what’s off-limits?” I asked.
“Well, you know, personal stuff between us that’s private,” he said.
“Some people use pseudonyms on their blogs, but I’ve always used your real name. Do you care?”
“No, as long as you aren’t writing about, you know…stuff like skid marks in my underwear, I don’t really care what you write.”
Good to know. So, Internet, I will never write about skid marks in my husband’s underwear.
(Don’t worry, sweetie, they know your underwear smells like roses and is always delightfully fresh.)
Well, everyone has to set limits. I think skid marks are a pretty good limit, one that both your husband and readers will appreciate.

Oh, how we too have had The Talk. About fifty times. Mostly it’s just me laughing and him saying “Are you going to blog that?”

Yeah I feel ya. I try and leave the hubby out – well maybe not, but I do try and keep the REALLY personal stuff out – most days! ha ha

I’ve also always used my wife’s real name rather than a pseudonym. I use initials or pseudonyms for other people.
Some things I just treat as off-limits; if I think it would hurt her feelings I won’t post about it. My own terrible feelings and stupid stuff is fair game.
