Is it possible to feel yourself ovulating?
This afternoon while I was reading, I felt a twinge I haven’t felt in a long time, in my lower left abdomen.
There it goes again! A slight pulse of pressure where I imagine my left ovary to be. It’s kind of like someone’s stepping on it, to be precise.
I’ve been taking birth control pills off and on (mostly on) ever since I was 16. I may have started getting busy at a young age, but I wasn’t careless.
Yes, I’ve been capable of counting from one to twenty-eight for approximately twenty-five years, but for some reason I’m finding that the simple act of tracking my cycle, trying to figure out what “day” this is, challenging. Cycle tracking is something I haven’t ever really found necessary. Now that I’m going pill-free, I just feel that it’s nice to know. You know?
I guess technically today would be day 12 of this cycle, the first one since I stopped taking those little orange pills. I set up an account on a website called MyMonthlyCycles.com to try to figure all of this out. The handy little calendar looks like this:
The little bunnies are supposedly fertile days, with increasing intensity, during which, oh, I get it, we’re supposed to bang like bunnies. The little yellow “ov” in a starburst means ovulation is expected that day. Now, this calendar is based on a 28 day cycle, which I have yet to establish, so this might not be completely accurate. Much like Google Maps, this tool cannot 100% reliably take me to my destination.
While MMC has these handy little calendar tools, and cute pictures of cartoon, post-coital bunnies, it will not give me any real, useful information unless I cough up the cash for a premium membership. I’d rather talk ovulation with real women than a pretty, pink-themed Internet ovulation calculator, anyway. The women of the Internet have much to teach, and I have much to learn.
I promise not to fill this blog with talk of cervical mucus, breast tenderness and other questionable symptoms. I just wondered if other women experience this symptom, this Mittelschmerz? Anybody?
