The weather this summer so far has been totally unpredictable. I guess it isn’t yet officially summer, since this year the solstice falls on June 20, still two days away. A couple of weeks ago it was stifling hot, with record high temperatures and sweltering humidity. Today the high temperature is a mere 18 degrees Celcius. I kick you in the junk, 18 degrees Celcius.
Since Graham’s driveway sealing business depends very much on rain-free days, he’s found it really hard trying to figure out a work schedule. His addiction to the weather network has taken on life of its own, and this morning I found myself throwing my body in front of the television in our living room, telling him in desperate tones that this thing, this evil, this unholy obsession, this Sicilian thing MUST END. The weather network has taken over our lives and I’m calling uncle. I mean honestly, it is impossible to predict the weather 14 days in advance, which is why this morning, when Graham said he saw the weather network is predicting good weather for our week at the lake I merely smirked, as I responded, “That’s nice, dear.” At least I managed to keep my eyes from rolling back into my head.
Have I mentioned our upcoming trip to Rice Lake? We booked it before Graham’s layoff, and we can still afford to go, so a week from this Saturday, we’re going. The bonus thing is that because we are regular visitors to this little resort, the owners give us a good deal when we go up. This time our reservation got slightly botched so we’ll be staying the first two nights in a smaller cottage, then moving for the remainder of the week to another, larger cottage, and we’re being compensated with a $100 discount, which totally rocks. As Graham put it, “More money for beer and food, right?” Oh yes, yet another reason why I married this man.
The little resort place we’re going to is the place where Graham proposed to me (if you go to their website you can see our picture in the little montage there), the place we spent the week after our wedding, gaining five to seven pounds each in our post-wedding, stuffing-our-faces and drinking ourselves to sleep every night bliss. We have a boat that we keep up there on the lake, but we’re hoping to sell it, so if anyone is interested in buying our boat, it’s totally available. Spiders not included.
We’ll be heading up on the afternoon of the 28th, cooler filled with beer and cheese groceries, sunscreen packed hopefully in our overnight bags. I can’t wait.
The only question is, will I be able to live an entire week without internet access?

I think yes.

I’ll miss you! Have a great week!! We’ll see you when you get back!! Enjoy!! Hugs!

You’re not fooling anyone. All Canadians are obsessed with the weather, whether they admit it or not. 30 Helens agree.
