Last night while Graham snored beside me I watched Obama’s speech on CNN. I think it’s needless to say, but it was absolutely amazing. History in the making, to spout a cliché. There are plenty of awesome American bloggers writing about American politics and the election which is, I believe 66 days away, now, so I feel it’s really unnecessary to talk politics here.
There are rumblings on parliament hill of an election this fall here in Canada, too. Odds are we’ll have elected a new Prime Minister before the United States elect Obama (I’m hearing October for an election). We continue to marvel that Canadians can call an election, endure a campaign, elect a new Prime Minister, and install him or her on Sussex Drive in a matter of months, while the American system for electing a new leader lasts a couple of years. Mind you, this is mostly due to the fact that we have the ability to elect a minority government, and if that minority government messes things up, we can yank them out of there lickity split (although we don’t always do so quickly enough). We don’t have to wait four years to give ‘em the boot. Hell, we let Chrétien lead the country for ten years.
I really, really hope that my American neighbours to the south can see that Obama is the best hope they have for the success of their future as a nation. I’m proud to have so many wonderful American friends (and Canadian friends living in the United States) and I worry for them. For their kids who need specialized health care, and for their relatives who serve in the Middle East, and for those who need secure employment.
I also worry about the American education system, because a society that is well-educated wouldn’t sell and distribute campaign materials displaying glaring errors in punctuation, now, would they?

(P.S. Katie of MotherBumper asked me to do a guest post over at Being Savvy Toronto, so I jumped at the chance! Head on over to read Three Simple Ways to Get Kids into Gardening.)

66 Days. I just got chills reading that.
LOL @ the pen.
Maria’s last blog post..Say it with me now – “Homophobic”. And now – “Stereotypical”. Or maybe just “Ignorant.”
I suppose it is better to hand out pens with a typo rather than throw them all out and waste them.

Omg. As a former English teacher (don’t judge me for how I write on my blog) that would drive me up the wall. Has anyone pointed that out to him?
We watched all four nights of the primaries. My mom is an American and my father an American historian, so I’ve grown up steeped in American politics. But despite what a lot of the pundits were saying, I thought Obama’s speech was amazing. He sounds presidential. And frankly, I’d rather take a chance on someone with less White House/Washington experience than ever, in my life, vote Republican. Ever.
Soap box taken down now.

Oh, mah God. The pen! I will be voting for Obama. (Even before I saw that apostrophe)
It is going to be an interesting election season, to say the least.
