Overdose.

On the way to dinner at my mom’s last night, Graham and I remarked about how pretty the leaves on the trees were. The sun was setting, so the lovely autumn leaves were all glowing with their new colours.

“You know, all in all this hasn’t been too bad a weekend,” I said. “You know, I thought Thanksgiving would feel all hurried and rushed but it hasn’t been bad. We’ve had time to relax and everything.”

“Yeah,” Graham agreed. “We got a lot done, but it hasn’t been too nuts.”

Little did I know how utterly DONE I’d feel later on.

I survived dinner with the in-laws, featuring commentary about Obama by my mother-in-law’s boyfriend which forced me to simply leave the room for fear my head would explode (“He’s a Muslim. He says he isn’t, but he is.”) and made even more colourful by my mother-in-law’s rendition of Blitzkrieg Bop on Playstation Rock Star.

I survived visiting with my two-week old step-nephew and some minor family drama on Sunday. (The will details weren’t divulged yet, after all.)

I survived my mom telling my brother about her new relationship and another round of family photos.

We headed up the stairs to our bedroom when we got home last night. I looked at the bed and was suddenly more exhausted than I’d been in weeks.

I love my family, but all of a sudden, Christmas seems to be coming entirely too soon.

And to think, we Americans have them even CLOSER together. We hardly get a chance to catch your breath for diving right back into it all.

I am seriously almost done my Christmas shopping. I hate shopping at malls in December, or even November.

    Also, MORE TURKEY!

I hate when guests use your home to share their political platform with you and the family. It’s the perfect way to ruin a nice visit.

You know, when I got to Denmark after a weekend of holiday madness back home, I slept for 12 hours. 12 hours. Dude, I’m feeling your pain.

(Family drama. Ugh. You’ve got that worse than me. Bad luck!)

Boy, do I hear you. I have come to just dislike holidays, for the most part. I tried to circumvent some of the drama and stress at my family’s this year, only to be outfoxed and have them change their whole MO, making me the bad guy this time. Gah!
