Calling all fashionistas.
In about a week and a half I’m taking a little road trip with a couple of girlfriends into New York state to do a little shopping. I’ve been diligently saving a little money so I can buy myself some new clothes. I’m completely sick of wearing the same couple of pairs of jeans and the same old sweaters and t-shirts. I think that part of my problem is that because I work from home, I really have little incentive to make myself look nice. I can literally just grab the first thing that I see in the closet to wear around the house all day. Then when I leave the house to go to work at the restaurant I wear a uniform.
We’ll be hitting up the area around Boulevard Mall in Amherst, New York, and we’re also planning to go to Target at some point, too.
I should also mention that I feel generally through with buying crap. Historically I’ve shopped for clothes only when I NEED them, and rarely buy anything because I LIKE it. I’m at the point where I’d rather buy two or three quality pieces I love and that I can mix and match well than ten cheap items I don’t really like, and will fall apart after a year.
So I need your advice. I’ve been doing a lot of window shopping online, and I think I know a few good places where I can stretch my hard-earned dollars while still getting some quality stuff. I need to know where to find the best quality for the best prices. Thoughts?

Two words: Filene’s Basement.
Seriously, its like Winners only about 10000 times better. Go. Prepare for it to suck about a day (at least) of your time.

All I want to know is why I’m not invited? I wish I knew places to go. I can suggest J. Crew and Target, I’ve never been but for some reason I think they’d be cool. Have fun and you’ll have to model your new wardorbe for us.
I second the J Crew…quality pieces that are classic and the prices are *okay*.
Beyond that I’d need your exact travel-to location.

I second Filene’s.
Also Banana Republic has good sales racks n the states, and they have nice, clean-lined pieces that are classic with a modern twist and good quality.
