Dance like no one’s watching.

Last night I dragged Graham out to the grocery store with me to pick up a few things.  We didn’t need a whole lot, just a giant can of coffee, some refried beans and oatmeal.  We’re all set in the fibre department.

We grabbed a cart and headed into the store to the tune of Jingle Bell Rock, a song that, in my opinion, has no business being played in the stores this early in the month of November.  Kids are still eating Hallowe’en candy and we’re supposed to be getting into the Christmas mood?  I don’t think so.

Regardless, I bopped along to the song with my cart in a lame attempt to make Graham laugh.  His attention, however, was directed elsewhere.  “Hey look, these tea towels are on sale,” he was saying.  “Ame?  See?”

“You missed it!  I was dancing for you,” I said.  Graham is a dancing man.  As a general rule, I don’t dance.  There I was being a total ass in public and he had missed it.

“Oh, do it again!” he said.

“No….now I feel silly.  And there are people coming.”

“So what?” he replied. “They don’t know me.  See?”  He proceeded to fling his arms and legs around wildly in an attemp to dance a Christmas jig.

The sight of his public display of dancing nearly killed me, I laughed so hard.

Graham is so good at making me laugh at myself.  I love him for that…so much so that we headed to the lingerie section where I let him pick out a new “outfit” for me.

The things married people will do for each other, eh?

Speaking of Christmas, if you have little ones to shop for this year, you’ll definitely want to check out the Cool Mom Picks Safer Toy Guide 2008.

Wait – your grocery store has a lingerie section? I hope it’s not near the frozen foods!

(And I totally agree that retailers are pushing Christmas earlier and earlier each year!)

I dance in the grocery store all the time. I used to do it to make Pynchon laugh, but now I just do it. Oh-oh. I’ve become a dork.

the main reason i dislike hearing christmas music in november is that it’s too damn early. as you said, i’m still gnawing on trick or treat stuff. this is probably why we are so stressed in life. we are always being forced to look ahead. not live for the moment… ah.

i like the idea of dancing in the grocery store though…

Thanks for the cmp love, mama!

And when you hit New York State – see if there’s an H&M in the area. It’s like Target prices or better, only the clothes actually look like designer knock-offs.

BAHAHAHAHAHA I can’t believe he missed your dance because of “tea towels”. It’s so, so surreal. I like dancing and singing in the car to freak my teenagers out. Especially to music I’m not suppose to like but do. It’s like “My mom the headbanger”.
