Nobody does snow like Ottawa.

This morning we woke up to a good 15 cm of fresh snow on the ground.  Whenever it seems like there is a lot of snow outside, I like to look at this old photograph of me with my dad in Ottawa back in about 1978.  Then I realize that 15 cm is nothing, a mere dusting in comparison to the kind of snow we used to get there.

I love how my arms are stuck straight out in front.  No way am I going to escape from that sleigh!  And how cute is my little 24-year-old, sittin’ in a snowbank Dad?

  1. My Big Snow memories are largely from Prince George (central BC), where one winter during the two years that we lived there the snow piled up so high in front of our house we had to dig a tunnel into our front door. Seriously.

Ah, the good ol’ days when we got real snow! I didn’t grow up in Ottawa but I was born in the 70′s in Ontario. I remember when we’d get snow and it would stay…and then we would get more snow, and it would stay too!

Great memory with your dad! (What was with those 1970′s mustaches, anyway? My dad had one too.)

Awwww! We lived in Alaska when I was little and have a few memories of the deep kind of snow.

Hey! Your parents were young, too, eh?

When I was little we lived in Aylmer and my siblings still talk about how they got to make snow forts all the time in the winter. We don’t get snow like that in Calgary.

  6. I remember snow like that. Heck, they still have it that way in Nova Scotia. I miss being able to build a tunnel maze in the front yard with my brother.
