32 candles.

Today I’m 32.  This message from my mom was waiting for me in my inbox this morning.

If you look out your door this morning and can scarcely see across the street, imagine the snow about ten times heavier. That is the weather I watched from the window of the delivery room as I lay at 5:03 p.m. 32 years ago today, trying to focus on the snow instead of the pain I was experiencing. I was waiting for the doctor to arrive to deliver you, Ottawa had come to a halt due to the weather. I swear Ame, it’s like it was last week; it is that clear in my mind’s eye. I pushed like a maniac and then hearing no cry, I asked them if you were alright, “is she all normal?” They held you high in the air and I caught my first glimpse of one of the two greatest gifts I’ll ever receive. I marvelled at how perfect you were and the blessings you brought to my life. I still do.

That’s lovely – my mother would never say anything so nice!! I was born in Ottawa 31.5 years ago but of course there would have been no snow storm in July. Well, not likely to have been, you never know with Ottawa.
