A big day for Nate (and for me).

Today was a big day for Nate!

This morning after he had his breakfast and played for a little while, I put him in the boppy next to me on the couch. He started to look sleepy so I gave him his soother and he fell right asleep! On his own. No rocking, no swinging, no nursing. Just sleeping. Later that afternoon when he started to look tired, rubbing his face and eyes, I swaddled him up, gave him his soother and put him down in his crib, awake but sleepy. He did it again! He fell asleep and stayed asleep for an hour, which meant I got to nap, too, in my bed. This has been my goal for awhile now, so I’m very happy he was able to nap there for a change.

Snooze.

Zonked out on the couch.

The last couple of days Nate has been finding his hands, putting his little fist in his mouth for a taste every now and then. I unwrapped a new little rattle and showed it to him. When his hand opened up I put it in his palm and he held on for a few minutes, shaking it. I didn’t think he even realized he was the one making the rattle move and make noise, but then he put it in his mouth, too!

It’s been a big day around here. I felt like a good mom today.

It seems like just yesterday Chaser was learning to put himself to sleep. Enjoy every little milestone, it goes way to fast.

Hey Amy! Wow – I was just thinking about you today, wondering if you had a baby (the last time I read your blog, you guys were trying). I was reading a blog, and lo and behold, I saw that you had commented on it!
Congratulations on your little boy!!! I LOVE the name Nate (whether it's Nathan or Nathaniel). That was on my short-list of boy names.
We just had baby #2 on December 31st at 22:46 (knew I was in labour, thought for sure she would be coming the next day, she literally flew out of me before the midwives could get there. She was born at home.) Her name is Annabelle Marie.
Can't wait to read about your adventures in Mommyhood!

  7. It's so good to have those "good mom" days. :) They make it all worthwhile.

Even when you don't feel like it – you're always a good mum.

You are a good mom EVERY day!

Naps, glorious naps! I could use one of those today…and it is only 7:50 in the morning. LOL.

That is wonderful! And goodness he's cute!

  11. sarah says:

Yay for him falling alseep on his own!!! We were just getting to that point when he caught a horrible cold over christmas, and we just haven't gotten back to that point. (boo).

Wont be long before Nate starts batting at toys and really understanding that he controls his hands!

  12. Roshan says:

Way to go Nate. Good job buddy not bothering his mommy like most babies do.

  13. Amy says:

Thanks, Andrea! We've come a long way since we first came home from the hospital…

  14. Amy says:

Jess! SO NICE to see your little avatar face! Will you make it to New York this August?

  15. Amy says:

Thanks for the support, as usual, Angie!

  16. Amy says:

Thanks, Melissa! They're few and far between but totally awesome when they happen!

  17. Amy says:

I'm trying to imprint everything in my mind…but please, the sleeping? At night? If he could just reach that milestone a tiny bit faster I'd be so, so happy.

  18. Amy says:

Hey, Heidi! I was just thinking about you the other day, and here you are! Congratulations on the birth of Annabelle! That's so nice that you and Steve now have a boy and a girl. Are you writing online anywhere these days? (Nate is short for Nathan.)

  19. Amy says:

His little smile in the morning, no matter how few hours of sleep we got the previous night, makes it all worthwhile. :)

  20. Amy says:

    Aw, thanks so much!

  21. Amy says:

It's never too early for a nap. NEVER.

  22. Amy says:

Thanks, Allie! I'll tell him you said so.

  23. Amy says:

Oh, that's too bad, Sarah, I hope CJ's feeling better! Nate has started to swat at the toys hanging from his Wiggle Worm activity mat. It's fun to watch him learn that stuff!

  24. Amy says:

Aw, I don't think of him as being a bother, honest I don't. At least not yet. ;)
