Family resemblance.

Some babies are the spitting image of one of their parents. They look like little shrunken versions of their mom or dad. The other day I was browsing through Facebook (one of my new hobbies is looking at pictures of the babies and kids of people I went to high school with) and found these photographs of one of my old boyfriends’ baby daughter. She looks so much like him that it’s almost like a photo of his head has been superimposed on a baby’s body.

When Nate was born all the nurses at the hospital said he looked like his dad. My brother calls him “Little Graham.” Everybody says that Nate looks just like his dad. I can’t disagree with them. He definitely has a lot of Graham in him. He has his body type. And his eyebrows.

Every once in awhile I catch a little glimpse of myself in Nate’s face. Maybe it’s the shape of his lips, or the expression he wears when he’s listening intently. Hardly anyone ever says that he looks like me at all. I don’t mind…it’s not like a lack of my characteristics in his face call into question the fact that I am his mother. I was there when he was born! He’s definitely mine. And if he looks more like his dad than he looks like me, that’s okay because I sure like his dad a whole lot.

I’ve been looking through some of my baby pictures, trying to find one that shows any kind of resemblance between Nate and I. So far I haven’t had much luck.

Amy

Me.

I finally saw a picture of Graham as an infant, and there isn’t a whole lot of resemblance in that photo, either. I guess Nate is a fairly even blend of us both.

I was pleasantly surprised the other day, when a woman I met on a playdate said immediately upon seeing Nathan, “Oh, he looks just like you!” Now granted, this woman had never met Graham so she had no basis for comparison.

Still, I’ll take it.

Bank it! Also, they seem to morph and move in and out of twindom with their parents :)

Bonus: You were an adorable baby AND you have an adorable baby. :)

So apparently there’s this thing where babies look like their fathers immediately after being born, because way back in the day when we women were dragged around by our hair and we all wore animal skins, it prevented the father from killing the baby. It may only last a few minutes, but it’s a survival thing.

And that is what you get when you play far too much Trivial Pursuit.

Anyways. The Poptart is my spitting image except for her eyebrows and her legs which are all her father. Not the hairy legs part, but the fact that they are long and muscular rather than short and kind of pudgy :)

Gah. I just posted a comment and it looks like it got eaten.

Anyways the thing about babies looking like one parent or another? Many babies will look like their fathers immediately after being born. It's an evolutionary thing designed to stop the fathers from killing the babies, apparently.

The poptart is my spitting image. Except for her eyebrows, dimples and legs – that's all her father.

Both of my kids are my mini-me's. I have had someone ask if my husband was involved in the making of our kids. Now I wouldn't go so far as to say that there is none of my hubby in the kiddos, but it is funny to see the comparison.

Both of my kids (both girls, btw) looked just like their dad from day 1. Sadly, I am shallow, and it did bother me when everyone would point this out! But as they got older and personalities came shining through, I definitely could see more of myself in them. And the long hair didn't hurt my cause either!

I know how you feel! If I had a dime for everytime someone called Connor 'Lil Mike' *sigh* I too have searched for pics that resemble me but personality wise, he is all Mummy! I'll take that ;)

    p.s. cute baby picture :)

That's the only time I get told that he looks just like me, is when Matt's not around haha.

But, Nolan has my lips and the shape of my eyes, but everything else is his dads! lol

  9. I don't know you in person and I know a lot of times people look much different in motion than in photographs, but I see a lot of you in Nate. Sometimes Nico looks EXACTLY like me in his pictures, and since he has my coloring people tend to tell me he looks like me in person, too. My poor husband..any time someone tells him the baby looks like him he's just so pleased. It's rare, since he's dark-haired and brown-eyed and the baby is redheaded with blue-ish (so far) eyes and my dimples.
